• For persons 65 or older, Cityride is a curb-to-curb transportation assistance program available in Los Angeles and select areas of Los Angeles County. City-permitted taxi rides and Cityride Dial-A-Ride services are provided at reduced costs.
  • Paratransit is a door-to-door program for frail seniors that need assistance with accessing and utilizing transportation.
  • Multipurpose senior centers are located throughout the City of Los Angeles. Services include in-home assistance, care management, legal assistance, nutrition services, home delivered meals, transportation, paratransit, and health education and screening services.   • HIRE LA’s Youth focuses on connecting L.A.’s youth to employment opportunities.  This is provided by a partnership between the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce (LAACC), Mayor Villaraigosa, the City of Los Angeles, and the Workforce Investment Board.
  • The Los Angeles Police Academy Magnet School Program offers a rigorous, police officer-led high school curriculum for youth interested in a law enforcement career. The program provides a better understanding of law enforcement for students, and also provides a high quality recruiting resource for the Los Angeles Police Department.
  • The Safe House Community Program provides homes or businesses where a child may go for safety or assistance when the child encounters a threat or other emergency while en route to or from any LAUSD elementary, middle, or senior high school. Safe House locations are marked with a distinctive placard for easy identification.
  • Several LAPD youth programs encourage young people to avoid drugs and gangs, stay in school, and contribute positively to society. Find more details on these programs by visiting the LAPD website or below in our Education & Personal Development section.
  • California Coalition for Youth (CYCL) offers support, encouragement and referrals to youth needing assistance or in crisis situations. CYCL is an immediate, reliable and free link between youth and local services. They help to find homeless youth shelters, youth-serving medical clinics, on-going counseling services and much more throughout California. The California Youth Crisis Line, (800) 843-5200, is a statewide, toll free 24-hour confidential Hotline available to teens and young adults ages 12-24 and/or any adults supporting youth.
  • The Fire Cadet Program provides young men and women with an exciting opportunity to learn about firefighting and emergency medical services as future career choices.
  • Join the Volunteer Attorney Program or Law Clerk/Intern Program with one of the top five largest municipal law offices in the nation – the LA City Attorney’s Office.


  • Domestic Violence Program Shelters are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Emergency or transitional housing and services are exclusively dedicated to survivors of domestic violence. Emergency shelters offer refuge for up to 90 days, while transitional shelters offer refuge for 6-18 months. Contact for services is done through Administrative Offices. Service Locations are confidential.
  • The Safely Surrendered Baby Law gives parents of any age the choice to legally leave their baby with an employee at any Los Angeles County hospital or fire station at any time, no questions asked, within 72 hours of the baby’s birth. No Shame, No Blame, No Names. A free hotline, (877) 222-9723, is open to answer questions or direct to nearest location 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Persons with Disabilities

  • The Department On Disability coordinates and monitors the City’s compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973(Section 504). The ADA Compliance Officer and ADA Coordinators work closely with all City departments to facilitate the process which includes: providing reasonable accommodation for City employees with disabilities, providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities who utilize City programs services and facilities, and advocating for persons with disabilities facing discriminatory treatment.
  • Blue curb maintenance can be requested by contacting the area transportation district office. Maintenance includes repainting of blue curbs and replacement of damaged signs.
